The first post

This is my new blog that is exclusive to Honors 201/401, and this is my first post, touching on the differences and similarities between citizen and professional journalism and where I stand.

I fall under the professional journalism category, or someone who wants to be a professional. I have worked at newspapers for almost three years and they have many qualities that citizen journalism can't match.

I want my work published where the public can easily view it and at a newspaper, that isn't hard. People randomly pick up newspapers and start reading daily as they eat lunch, go to the bathroom, wait in the doctor's office, the list goes on...

As a citizen journalist, you'll find it hard to let your voice be heard when your work is limited to your blogs and websites because you don't have the funds to publish your stuff any other way.

I like the organization that a newspaper has. Sure, citizen journalists have freedom to publish whatever they want whereas I have restrictions. That's not a big deal to me since I'm not very opinionated and I don't write a whole lot of edgy articles that spark controversy.

At the moment, I've hit writer's block, so consider this entry TO BE CONTINUED...

I'm glad you are so confident that you are a professional journalist. I hesitate before describing myself by that word. I disagree with the fact that citizen journalists are confined to share their opinions on the net because of funds. What if a group of citizen journalists joined together (funds and all) to produce some sort of print edition or improve publicity of their projects. I also disagree that you aren't very opinionated...but thats another story.

I look forward to the next edition of Buckentine. I wonder what extreme words of wisdom you will expound to us, your fellow colleagues...
